What are dbx files?
Outlook Express 5/6 stores all messages of a mail folder in a corresponding .dbx file. For example, the Inbox.dbx file contains messages that are displayed in the Inbox mail folder in Outlook Express, the Outbox.dbx file contains messages that are displayed in the Outbox mail folder, and so on.
If a dbx file is damaged and you cannot operate the corresponding mail folder in Outlook Express, then you need to use AOEME to repair the dbx file and recover your messages from it.

The messages in Inbox or other mail folders disappear, how to recover them?
Please do as
follows:
1. Choose the mailbox in AOEME or find the dbx corresponds to your folder.
2. AOEME will automatically analyze and repair the dbx file file.
Then you can output all the recovered messages in eml format.
3.Backup the dbx file file and delete the original file.
4. Import the recovered eml files into Outlook
Express.
Why
do I need Accurate Outlook Express Mail Expert?
We have
felt the need to store the e-mail messages extracted in the hard
disk or a CD and then be able view and search them easily.
One big DBX file has several disadvantages:
• It's fragile, especially as they get big. They get corrupted too
easily.
• It's hard to back them up or compact them. They just get bigger
and bigger.
• They can corrupt easily if you place them on a network drive.
• People have a hard time taking the messages with them.
So please try and use AOEME, it can help you when you meet
questions as above.
How
can to repair Outlook Express and recover all corrupted folders with e-mails?
If the folders are
visible but there are no messages in them, or if you see that the list of
messages in a folder is incorrect, then you'll have to restore the messages from
each one of the old dbx files , and import them back into Outlook Express.
Find all the dbx files of Outlook Express and create a backup copy of these
files.
For each destroyed folder, and each old dbx file, do the following sequence of
operations:
1.Open the dbx file corresponding to the corrupted folder in AOEME.
2.AOEME will automatically repair a dbx file and restore all messages from it.
3. Extract the repaired e-mails to separate eml message files.
4.Remove the repaired dbx files from the Outlook Express folder. Run the Outlook
Express and click on the folder, which dbx file you have just removed, and the
Outlook Express will automatically create new empty dbx files.
5.Select all restored eml files in Windows Explorer and drop/move them into the
target folder in Outlook Express.
Can
AOEME decode DBX files natively?
Yes, you
don't need to have Outlook Express installed to extract or repair the messages.
But if you want to view the messages in AOEME, you need to install Outlook
Express in your computer.

AOEME has repaired my dbx file(or mbx file) and outputted all the recovered eml
files into a directory. Then how to import these emails to Outlook Express?
1.Start Outlook Express and keep it open.
2.To select the
repaired messages in the Windows Explorer.
Tip: For selecting a group of message
files, hold down the SHIFT key, click the message file at the top of
the group, and then click the message file at the bottom of the
group. To add message files to a group you have already selected,
hold down the CTRL key, and then select the message files you want
to add. To exclude selected message files, hold down the CTRL key,
and then click the selected message files.
3.Drag
the selected messages from the directory and
drop them into the target mail
folder in the opened Outlook Express. The Outlook Express repair
process is over, and you get the completely repaired emails as
normal ones.
